Today, it is with deep regret the Board of Directors of the Maritime NHL’ers for Kids formally announces the postponement of the 2021 Maritime NHLers for Kids including the Gala Dinner & Auction and the Celebrity Golf Tournament. This two-day event was originally scheduled to take place July 21- 22 at the Rodd Crowbush Golf and Beach Resort in Morell, Prince Edward Island.
Despite the upcoming relaxation of COVID-19 related restrictions in our regions, the decision is rooted in the ongoing uncertainties of public health restrictions and precarious nature of the Coronavirus Variants, rendering an unclear picture regarding group gathering sizes, game play structure and inclusion of minor hockey caddie kids.
Rick Bowness, record setting NHL coach and Founder of Maritime NHL’ers for Kids said, “The past 15 months have been extremely difficult for us all and we yearn for the better days that lie ahead. However, with an overabundance of concern for the safety of all our participants, volunteers and minor hockey caddie kids, our decision for 2021 is the right one’. Bowness continued, “Though its disappointing to deliver today’s message, it does not erode our passion for removing the financial and social barriers that prevent young boys and girls from pursuing their hockey dreams in NS-NB-PEI.”
Chris Larsen, Event General Manager stated, “We remain committed to delivering the next Maritime NHL’ers for Kids in Prince Edward Island and are excited about the prospects of doing so in 2022."
In the coming weeks, further information will be released regarding 2021 donations that will be made to Canadian Tire Jumpstart, the official charity of the Maritime NHL’ers for Kids. This will be made possible through the generosity of our gracious sponsors and generous guests.
We thank all our stakeholders, celebrities, volunteers and event followers for their understanding as we continue to work through the difficulties of the past 15 months in order to bring a bigger, better and safer event to our communities the years to come.
